A poorly J & G Lines rocking horse, manufactured circa 1890, which has been the subject of the begining of a brutal DIY restoration. The paint had been removed by means of an angle grinder, which has taken away its old mellow finish, some paint on the head and the belly is all that remains of the original paint, which has a later coat of paint over the top..
Before
After making good any loose body joints, we built up several layers of paint so as to give a 'foundation' for the new dapple. Once this was applied and aged, the horse was reharnessed and fitted back on to the stand which had also been in our workshop. The non standard coat of red paint was removed, all joints made good and finally wax polished.
The final result being that the horse is now back in service again and loved by all of the family
After.
