Height to saddle, 43". Overall width, 24".
The fabulous head of this horse is attributed to A E Anderson of Bristol, a famous carver of ships figureheads and fairground horses. The bridle bears the trademark Scarlet Lychnis flower, emblem of Bristol, and has a 'best quality double carved mane'.
The body, legs and stand are typical of the master rocking horse maker, F H Ayres of London. Classic posts and runner design pointing to this maker. The horse has a carved wooden saddle with adjustable stirrup leathers and a carved wooden tail.
This rocking horse has just been in our own workshop for restoration, where a later coat of paint was removed to reveal the original dapple grey (Ayres style) with only some minor retouching to the paintwork and new reins and stirrup leathers. The stand, with all original timber and iron work, has been serviced and waxed polished.
This horse is enormous and totally unique and as a result, makes for a most dramatic display. Suitable for all riders!
